Cruise Angels
adamcshelby15 August 2021
This is the second Angels episode taking place on a cruise ship, the other being first season episode "Angels at Sea", which was one of the worst episodes of Charlie's Angels I've watched, featuring the pained over acting of Frank Gorshin. I'm glad to say that "Angels Ahoy" was at least entertaining if not a classic.

Just as in season 1, this episode was shot on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. The producers made a better effort at spicing up the look of the ship giving it more atmosphere than it had the first time.

The plot is simple, a woman aboard the Southern Queen is murdered after witnessing what she believed was a fugitive in one of the cabins. The cruise ship owner hires the Angels to find out what's happening, it's suspected that the Southern Queen is being used as a stowaway ship for American fugitives from the law escaping to South America.

Kelly goes undercover as your cruise director of activities. Sabrina goes undercover as the daughter of a mob boss who wants to flee to South America and she meets with a suspected cruise ship employee who facilitates these actions. Here she uses a hard New York accent, and unlike previous attempts at both a British and French accent, this one works pretty well for Kate Jackson. Kris comes on board as a passenger who takes a phony interest in the ships lounge singer, although unlike in previous episodes, we don't get to hear her sing.

There's a fair amount of action, including a scene where Kelly is trapped in an on-board fire. Kris is able to grab a large tarp and help rescue her from the flames.

Almost everyone among the guest cast appears to be a suspect, including the lounge singer, an older woman who Bosley has taken a romantic interest in, a shipboard doctor who reminds me of Bernie Kopel from Love Boat, hell even the ship captain seems a bit sketchy. There's a costume ball where Sabrina dresses as a clown, Bosley a pirate, and Kris as Little Bo Peep.

Overall this was a fun one, my interest never lagged, and it makes up for the awful first season episode Angels at Sea.

Oh no...pool skimmers!!

Warning: Spoilers
The Angels return to a cruise ship, to investigate a criminal-smuggling operation. Sabrina plays a criminal on the lam, and Kelly plays cruise director. This one has it all, starting with Bosley, who falls for a passenger who turns out to be the ringleader. The happy dose of sexiness comes from - surprise - Kelly! She's eye-popping in her jazzercise outfit, and her routine shows off legs far shapelier than you'd have guessed. As with all 4-star ANGEL episodes, there's an action climax in which some element is so over-the-top that all you can do is guffaw with delight. In this case, a bunch of baddies plan to drown Kelly in the ship's pool, with the cause of death being "drunkenness". She's dead sober, but they'll fix that by, um, tossing booze on her. How it's supposed to get in her bloodstream is a mystery, but the baddie taunting her as he repeatedly throws gin in her face is too, too classic. They chuck her in, then bring out the murder weapons...pool skimmers!!! Yes, those lightweight net tools that remove detritus. With twelve-foot poles, they're going to hold her under! It's so ridiculous that it's sublime.
