Gunther Given The Bird

We discover Captain Block has a pet parrot at home and is ga-ga over him. He just loves the bird and talks to it like a little baby. He takes it on vacation, which drives his wife nuts. Other that that, there is one thing wrong: the parrot won't talk, and it's driving Block nuts. Fifteen years and he can't get the bird so say anything.

Finally, when his wife flat refuses to go vacation with the parrot again, Block loans the bird to Gunther and Lucille Toody. At first, nothing much happens despite Gunther's best efforts. Finally, in frustration, he yells "I hate Captain Block."

Now, the bird talks and imitates what he just heard!

Toody is panicking. He has to un-do what just happened before Capt. Block comes home from vacation.....and what happens afterward is very funny. The scenes in the pet shop are especially good.

As always, funny as anything

You rarely can go wrong with Car 54, every show is not just well-written, but goes on to an unexpected plot twist or two making it even more hilarious.

The plot here sounds like typical sitcom fare - Captain Block is frustrated his parrot of fifteen years can't talk, but during one week or Toody parrot-sitting him for the Captain, he talks - and says "I hate Captain Block." Of course, that leads to various hi-jinks and hilarity.

My favorite part is probably near the start, when Toody goes on about his "Night Rover" uncle. Joe E. Ross is just perfect in his role, as always.

Maybe the best thing about this one tho' is that we get to see more of Claire, the wife of Captain Block, who is very beautiful. And as a bonus, we also see a cousin of Muldoon's named Vivian who is absolutely gorgeous. However, the name of the actress does not appear in the credits, and is not listed on the cast list at the IMDB. Wish I knew her name, she's something!

Another hilarious episode ! 9/10

This whole tv series was a well-written, well-acted,well-made tv show/series that had pretty-much all good,very-good,or excellent episodes.

So when I say this a good average or typical example of a Car 54 episode,please understand that an 'average' "Car 54 where are you" episode ranks in at about 85% or so.(In my book,at least!) This episode is extremely funny on many levels and from many angles and directions ! Quite enjoyable and there is something in it that everyone can relate to!
