Friend under an alias

Ever since he moved to Madrid, Steve Ihnat and his wife Bridget Hanley have ben friends with Sam Cade. Ihnat is a professor of archeology at a local college. But in a previous life and a different name Ihnat was a witness in a mob case and ran to prevent them doing harm to himself or Hanley.

When another witness is killed coming to Madrid to warn Ihnat that syndicate boss Simon Oakland was on his trail. Glenn Ford and the Madrid County Sheriff go to work. But they are working blind as Ihnat won't talk and then disappears.

Nice gun battle between Ford and Oakland at the climax. Guest stars Ihnat and Oakland give good accounts of themselves.

Not one of the best, so far.

The beginning is very promising for the story. Two hit men kill an ex con in a bus station. You learn about this guy as an ex con only afterwards, and all the whole thing is why this dude has been killed. I am thrilled to see here Simon Oakland as the evil guest star, the one ordering the opening killing sequence. For the rest, you have an investigation about a corpse thrown in an Indian old well. The body of a man that the dead duck of the opening scene came to visit when he was killed. It is more crime flick than western. Nothing exceptional, only the presence of Simon Oakland. I preferred the previous one I watched this morning: A GUN FOR BILLY. I don't know the director, never heard of him.
