Meet the New Guy

CHiPs

Continuity

When Linahan is first seen, she is riding with her kickstand down. In a subsequent shot, she is seen putting the kickstand down.
When Ponch and Bobby come in to the station after catching the two criminals, a reuse of Ponch and Jon from earlier seasons is seen with the same yellow Volkswagen Beetle and the two Bell System phone vans.
After the Plymouth crashes into the quicksand pit, the driver gets rescued with his clothes covered in mud. Later, after everyone else is rescued, the driver is seen being put into the back of a patrol car now wearing clean clothes.
When Nelson and Poncherello enter the freeway, they are 4 cars behind the green car that loses the baby. After the baby falls out, several cars are shown passing it. In a subsequent shot as Poncherello is approaching the baby, several more vehicles as well as a tractor-trailer are now between them.
While Getraer is talking to Poncherello and Nelson by the bulletin board, the postcard from Jon Baker disappears when Getraer is shown close up, and the same form and thumbtacks are visible next to Poncherello that were next to Getraer in his close up shot.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Tommy Lasorda, the manager of the L.A. Dodgers says he is late for the World Series. While it's true that the Dodgers were not in the World Series in 1982, a TV show does not necessarily exist at the same time it's broadcast, and the incident could be of some future time or even in 1981, when they were in the World Series.

Revealing mistakes

When the yellow Plymouth jumps into the pond, the gas tank straps are visible hanging under it. Gas tanks are removed for stunt scene to minimize the risk of a fire.
In the first crash of the 6th season, a ramp is visible beside the brown car. The ramp is used to launch the light blue car over the brown car. This same crash shows an obvious dummy sitting in the yellow car as the light blue car slides by it. A mattress for the stunt driver is also visible in the light blue car's passenger seat.
When Nelson and Poncherello take off from the freeway ramp to stop Tommy Lasorda, a noticeably shorter stunt rider is on Nelson's motorcycle.

Miscellaneous

The back door window of the CHP cruiser Amy and her baby are driven away in is open. Back door windows of police cars are permanently closed with the removal of opening/closing equipment to prevent escapes by prisoners being transported in the vehicles.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Nelson is first seen riding up alongside Poncherello, the motorcycle is heard to downshift but his hand never operates the clutch lever.

Crew or equipment visible

In the Lasorda pursuit, actual police officers are seen standing outside a police car on a side road. They were used for traffic control while filming.

Character error

In the opening credit, Jon Baker's badge number (8712) is still shown even though his character had left the CHP at this point.
Poncherello's decision to pursue the armed robbers without any police equipment would have resulted in at best disciplinary action or at worst his death had they stopped and engaged him.
Nelson issues a ticket to Tommy Lasorda, who had no license or registration, yet he never asked Lasorda for any details such as date of birth, address, etc. in order to complete the ticket. Additionally, he did not make a check on Lasorda's driver license or the tag on the car. The ticket could not have been completed as depicted.
After leaving the Russell residence, Nelson asks Poncherello what he missed, and Poncherello says about 5 years on the department. Since Poncherello was not placed on motorcycles right away when he joined the CHP, his time on the CHP as of 1982 was about 7 years, not 5 years.
