Bobby Wants A Trophy
Jimmy_the_Gent42 August 2020
Bobby is dejected since he is the only kid in the family who hasn't won a trophy.

A good Bobby episode, the first directed by Robert Reed. Mike and Carol encourage him to find one thing that he is really good at. He starts losing at everything from checkers to ring toss and gets more angry and frustrated. There is a funny dream sequence where he dreams about winning the World Series (for the Dodgers), speed boat races and ski jumps. He then finds out about an ice cream eating contest on a TV show called Kartoon King. Hal Smith (town drunk Otis on "The Andy Griffith Show") plays the wacky kid's show host. Mike Lookinland cracks up at one point at Smith's funny portrayal. Watch the episode and find out if he wins.

Poor Bobby.
landofoz-0009319 October 2023
This is one of my favorite episodes. Bobby is my favorite Brady brother, and this episode demonstrates why he is such a fun character. It's weird that the other review on here is so against Bobby. He is going through the same thing Jan went through, living in Marcia's shadow, and feeling jealous of all of her accolades and trophies. Except that now Cindy, the youngest of all, has won an award, and now Bobby is the only one who hasn't won anything. So naturally he feels sad and jealous. You really feel bad for him, like Jan, and any kid, he just wants to feel like he has achieved a title, and the way the scenes are directed (by Robert Reed) make the drama of the situation much slower and real. One of the reasons I identify with Bobby so much is that he is always the one who has the most outlandish dream sequences, and this episode has a lot of them. The ending is very sweet, and in true Brady fashion, Mike, Carol and everyone else, try their hardest to help Bobby throughout it all. Makes me wish I was a Brady.

Bobby deserves a good thrashing

Bobby Brady was a complete brat and deserved a good thrashing, and this episode illustrates that fact vividly. His parents try to help him win a trophy by having their friends buy magazine subscriptions from him and he tosses all of his orders at them when he finds out. If I was his father, he wouldn't be sitting down for a week. Too bad his father wasn't James Evans of "Good Times", who beat the living daylights out of his kids for a lot less.
