stamp mill = money pit
talonjensen23 July 2018
Candy and Little Joe win 40% of the Lost Creek Stamp Mill, next to a played-out mine, in a poker game, the other 60% is owned by a Katie Kelly, Celeste Yarnall, who inherited her share from her father. Her father also told her about all of the accidents that happened at the stamp mill because of Miles Renfro, Paul Lambert, who just happens to own every other stamp mill in the area.

Candy and LIttle Joe go out to the stamp mill and find the sole employee, Ludwig (Sándor Szabó) in a fire fight, they help him out and he tells them the attackers were sent by Miles. He also gives them a list of things he needs.

In town Candy and Little Joe meet Katie Kelly and they go out to the Ponderosa where Miles Renfro comes and makes them an offer of three times what the stamp mill went for in the poker game. All three owners refuse.

Little Joe and Candy meet with independent mine owners whose contract with Miles is up in 11 days, so it becomes a race to get the stamp mill working very quickly, a competition between Little Joe and Candy for the lovely Katie Kelly and trying to hold off Miles' sabotage.

Ben and Hoss have minor appearances, showing up to help at the end, but this season 10 episode, alternating between comedy and drama, is for Little Joe and Candy, both are seen multiple times with their shirts off.

A very young Dabney Coleman shows up near the end as Ivar Peterson, who represents the mine owners and wants to talk business with Katie. He is so young that, to me, his voice was more recognizable than his features.

Miles makes the mistake of taking on Ben and crew with hired thugs after buying the foundry they are using to create a new cog wheel for the stamp mill.

SPOILER: Katie has already sold her stock to Ivar, and planning on a honeymoon in Sacramento with Ivar. Ivar basically won because he mentioned marriage. Candy and Little Joe agree to sell their shares and get over Katie pretty quickly when they see another young woman in distress.

Warning: Spoilers
Showing off the physiques of Joe Cartwright and the ranch hand Candy as they are sawing wood on their mine. I didn't realize they had to stay in such shape for their roles. I guess Hoss Cartwright was too fat to get involved much in this episode regardless that he could whip both Candy and his little brother Joe together in a fight. The women in these old shows are always looking for a husband too. In the previous episode, Candy had been pursued by an italian woman who finally decided she wanted to wait for an italian man to come into her life. Candy exhaled in relief when he heard her say that.
