Richard begins his law studies at Mr. Tulkinghorn's firm, tutored by unimpressed Guppy and Kenge, and immediately shows specific interest in the Jarndyce inheritance case. While Sir Leicester Dedlock's neighbor feud rages on, his wife searches in the past of people relevant in the inheritance. Esther learns how she got her guardian, but also more about her background.—KGF Vissers
Richard Carstone sets off on his legal career at the offices of Mr. Kenge and begins to review some of the material in the Jarndyce case. Mr. Guppy takes advantage of his presence to learn more about Esther. He learns a good deal more however on a visit to Mr. Snagsby where they also learn from young Jo of Lady Dedlock's visit to Nemo's quarters. Mr. Jarndyce, Ada and Esther travel to Lincolnshire to visit Mr. Boythorn whose neighbors happen to be Lord and Lady Dedlock. At Church, Lady Dedlock gives Esther a most peculiar look. At a later meeting, she inquiries as to her origins.—garykmcd
