In the opening scene, Darrin reads an item to Samantha from the morning newspaper, that a new train is in service, and it "leaves the city at 10PM." Later in the episode, Darrin asks his boss Larry for a dime so he can call and find out what time the train leaves.
With Darrin in a phone booth on its side, the pay phone wouldn't work since the coin mechanism relies on gravity to work.
