'Nostromos' Is A No-No
ccthemovieman-117 May 2009
"Nostromos," an obvious take on a famous name, is pictured here as a fake psychic out to bilk the money-men of Gotham. Nostromos is an ex-actor and small-time con man, and he has a big racket going on predicting the future. Of course, it helps when he does something to make sure that future event happens!

The guy is dressed with a mask and cape who likes a cross between the Devil and Dracula. Batman knows he's a fraud right away.

How to expose him as a fake? That's basically the storyline here in this episode. It's a fair episode - not really that much happening. Specifically, a bigwig named "Ethan Clarke" (William Windom) in the city is ready to give the guy millions, being duped by the charlatan and the old guy's daughter winds up as a hostage to make sure the sucker pays off. It's not as dramatic as I describe. The famous Heather Locklear voices the daughter, "Lisa."

Makes up in hilarity what it lacks in suspense *Spoilers*

Warning: Spoilers
First off, this episode is a long way from being in the top episodes of the series. The premise is pretty simple: An obviously fraudulent "clairvoyant", Nostromo, is ripping off Gotham's fat cats by predicting horrible events (and making sure that these events happen) and subsequently scamming the money out of the scared people. Batman/Bruce Wayne, of course, figures out the ploy right from the start and saves the day by pretend-joining the culprit's secret "club".

And the way Batman outwits Nostrome is exactly why I gave the episode 8 stars, despite the pretty "standard" plot. In short, Batman just messed with the guy so badly that I almost felt bad for him at times. Not only did he pretend to join the "psychic"'s club, but he even contributed a whooping $10,000,000.00 to a "fund" set up by the "psychic". There is also a sweet scene where the guy's magic "flying" abilities go awry because Batman is pulling the strings. The look on Nostromo's face is hilarious.

Which brings me to my last point: Nostromo's eyebrows, or, total lack thereof. I don't know if it was on purpose, but designing a bad guy without eyebrows is, for me, absolutely amazing.
