This episode borrows many elements from the Star Wars movies: The Sentries carry swords similar to Lightsabers. In the game, when Terry is being pursued, he says "I can't shake 'em !", which is a line from the first Star Wars movie. When Corey knocks at the gate of Simon's estate, the security camera extends and gets in his face much like the sentry droid at Jabba's palace in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Simon wears a hooded robe much like the Jedi Knights in the Star Wars series. When Eldon shoots at Batman from the shadows, the light reflects off of his glasses much like the glowing eyes of a Jawa. Terry makes a joke about Jar Jar Binks ("Is Jar Jar lame?"). Simon fires bolts of energy from his hands just like the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Eldon ends the episode with a line very similar to the "Long Time Ago" line that opens every Star Wars movie. When the sentries first meet Simon, the music mimics Luke Sky walker's theme from Episode IV.
This episode shares plot elements with The Last Starfighter (1984), wherein an alien uses a video game as a test to find worthy candidates with the gift to be Starfighters.
Payton Oswalt, who plays Eldon Michaels, is known to be a Star Wars super fan who later performed a famous Star Wars monologue on Parks and Rec that some people say predicted key plot points in the Book of Boba Fett. Also, in this episode Michael's owns a robot that is similar to the one from Lost in Space. In an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Oswalt's character does an impression of the same robot.
