On 15 June 1878, Edweard Muybridge, an English photographer, used 12 cameras to prove that a horse has all 4 hooves off the ground at times during its stride. This was done for Leland Stanford at Stanford's horse breeding farm which is now the site of Stanford University.
Muybridge would later put those 12 pictures into an early version of a zoetrope to create a "motion picture."
