Holds up
kellielulu13 August 2022
I remember watching the show as a kid some episodes are of course more memorable than others. This is one of them.

The main suspect is is not doing herself any favors although it's hard to tell who did it until the end . Well done!

A nice setting too .

If you've seen "Homical", then you have a decent idea where this one's going.

Warning: Spoilers
When the story begins, a brute of a husband is slapping around his poor wife. Only moments later, he's dead...as a result of an accident OR murder! Naturally, many suspect the wife as she was his punching bag...but, of course, Barnaby has other ideas and they all rest on some synthetic hair fibers.

This is one of the audacious episodes of "Barnaby Jones" and the big twist is pretty cool. But, unfortunately, if (like me) you've seen William Castle's film "Homicidal", then you will have a good idea where the show is going by the end. Still, it's a pretty weird episode...unusual, over the top and just plain weird.

A Real Mystery
WYAdams13 August 2022
The viewer is led to believe a number of different people committed the murders. Just when it looks like one person is the murderer, someone else comes under suspicion. There are three very believable suspects and the actual murderer is not revealed until the very end, although there are subtle clues to the identity, and if the viewer esxpects a surprise ending the identity becomes obvious. In all honesty, I changed my mind several times as clues were revealed that seemed to point to one suspect then another. The motive is not obvious and that is why it is so difficult to figure out who did the murders.

This was an excellent episode that broke the tired old predictable plots of most episodes. If you like real mysteries, this is the episode to watch.

Riveting until the very end

Barnaby travels to a very picturesque lakeside retreat on request of his old lawyer friend. His client, although according to the police is innocent of the crime is called a murderer by almost everyone in town. The L.A. detective is going to have an uphill battle to put an end to the vicious gossip. But was she really innocent?

BARNABY HAS HIS HANDS FULL!
tcchelsey22 December 2023
Robert Sherman, who was also co-producer of the series, wrote 15 episodes for the show, and this has to be, by far, the most original. They should have held this over for the premier of the next season, it's that intriguing.

Actually, the story has the feel, for awhile, of a MANNIX episode as there are multiple suspects, and some who appear like they really committed the murder. You be the judge.

Sharon Acker plays Florence who is accused of killing her worthless husband, and if you followed the series, there were many more philandering husbands to come. However, there's a lot more to the case. As always, Acker turns in an excellent performance. Another super actress, Arlene Golonka plays Nora and Roger Perry plays Russ. Everyone looks guilty, and that's the fun here.

The acting put this one over the top, a real neat episode directed by one of the best, Leslie H. Martinson.

This is a psych out episode if there ever was one, reminiscent of the very first season episodes. What's missing though, is someone like Jack Cassidy, or perhaps James Olson. Not to be missed.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 24 remastered CBS dvd box set.

Boring
zombiemockingbird19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't find this nearly as exciting as the other reviewers did. I was bored from beginning to end. It was obvious from the first murder that it was a man in a blonde wig and dress, and I knew who the murderer was from the second I saw him. I just kept waiting for everyone else to figure it out, and see what his motive was. There wasn't any real story along the way, just a lot of people talking about nothing. The other problem was the acting; or the lack thereof. Sharon Acker (Florence Armstrong) bounced between woodenly delivering her lines to over-acting. Devon Ericson (Lori Armstrong) was just bad overall, and Arlene Golonka (Nora Frazier) was absolutely awful. Roger Perry (Russ Madden) did a good job with his little screen time and Ben Piazza (Eugene Armstrong) did a fair job up until the very end when he got a little sappy. Silly story, poorly acted and executed.
