Rabbi Koslov's ship is named White Star. This is both a foreshadowing, as well as an inside joke. The Whitestar is the Ranger ship later seen in Season Two. Also, the White Star line was the cruise line which created the ill-fated liner, Titanic.
Garibaldi meets his old friend Walker Smith, a professional boxer. Walker Smith was the actual name of pro boxer Sugar Ray Robinson.
The "slappers" Garibaldi confiscates are dermal medication patches. The patches are applied to the surface of the skin where the medication is absorbed into the body through the pores, eliminating the need for an injection. Slappers are popular among addicts because they are able to get a high without needles.
When Walker Smith is saying goodbye to Rabbi Koslov, a sign is visible behind Smith's head which reads, "Airlocks are no joke!"
