According to Babylon 5 creator, J. Michael Straczynski, approximately 20,000 ships took part in the Battle of the Line. Less than 200 survived, meaning that the Minbari killed 99% of Earth's defenders.
In order to get the feeling of being a fighter pilot, Michael O'Hare reportedly leased a fast sports car from a rental agency and drove the L.A. freeways at high speed.
Walter Koenig was the original choice for the role of Knight Two, but he was ill so the role ultimately went to Christopher Neame. Koenig was recast as recurring character Alfred Bester.
The episode title, "And the Sky Full of Stars", refers to Commander Sinclair's description of the Battle of the Line in 'Babylon 5: The Gathering': "The sky was full of stars, and every star an exploding ship. One of ours."
Jeffrey (Michael O'Hare) Sinclair's wingman is Bill Mitchell, an homage to General Billy Mitchell, who championed strategic air power.
