Widow Isabel van Lookeren is strangled at home while held down by an accomplice. She's found by her trusted physician Morrees, who has the keys, like cleaner Joke Boogaards. The main heir, daughter Sofia Smit, deals in diamonds, like her Jewish husband David and her late father, one of the rare gentiles in the business and rumored to have collaborated in World War II. By her recently amended will, the house goes to Morrees, a far smaller sum than expected to Joke, a small fortune to the Van Lookeren foundation. No provisions are made for the rare, pink Cassiopeia diamonds set, allegedly acquired by her dad. Nobody has a solid alibi. An apparent clerical error leads to another theory.
