Meatball frequently changes sex from male dog to bitch.
When TJ lites the fuel around the 50 cal ammo, the rounds start firing before the fire gets to them.
In the film montage in the beginning of the show the voice-over refers to MacArthur as "Four Star General" but in the close-ups he switches from four stars to five stars and back. Obviously they used a Hodge-podge of film clips from various times during the war. MacArthur received his 5-star rank on Dec. 18, 1944.
Meatball, the dog, started as an intact male but is very clearly female during the first season.
The Japanese soldiers by virtue of wearing American uniforms would have been summarily shot as spies.
The Corsair that took off is shown as being interpreted by Japanese Zero fighter planes. The Corsair had no external armament and as such had a top speed of 446 MPH. The Zero had a top speed of 332 MPH. Presuming the Japanese carrier was between the base and the incoming plane, any encounter would have been very brief, as the Corsair could have simply outrun the Zeros.
The Japanese are supposed to be elite "commandos". They quickly surrendered to an enemy they outnumbered and outgunned after only a few bursts of fire. These 'elite' troops would have been strict adherents to the code of Bushido and would have died to a man before surrendering, especially their colonel. The Japanese major played by George Takei who was more an advisor and not full military might be an exception.
Most likely the Japanese soldiers would have fought to the death than surrender.
The Corsair is shown as not being able to be heard by the radio on the incoming aircraft despite being high in the air and closer to the incoming plane, yet the incoming plane minutes later is easily able to reach the island's radio.
The Zeros are able to shoot down the Corsair, which presumably was flying towards the plane with General MacArthur, yet ignored his unescorted and unarmed plane.
