Sterling Holloway, Andy Griffith, and Don Knotts in The Andy Griffith Show (1960)

Goofs

The Merchant of Mayberry

The Andy Griffith Show

Edit

Factual errors

Ben, in berating Andy, implores him to "do something" about a competing store opening up in Mayberry. As sheriff, there's nothing Andy can do.
Andy gets the quote wrong when he says "music has charms to soothe the savage beast." The quote is "music has charms to soothe the savage breast."

Revealing mistakes

Fairly early in the episode, when Ben Weaver crosses street to approach Andy and Barney in front of the grocery store, the film is "reversed." The Ford Falcon that is parked in front of the movie theater has its steering wheel on the wrong side and the license plate is backward. There is also a continuity issue: Since the theater was behind Ben Weaver, he should have approached Andy and Barney from their right. Instead, he comes upon them from their left. Later in the episode, when Ben approaches Andy and Barney at Bert Miller's stand, the film is no longer "reversed." The movie theater and Ford Falcon are just fine.
The shot of Ben Weaver crossing the street in front of the theater is reversed, evident by the opposing position of neighboring buildings and the movie poster on the wall that reads "Now Playing" backward.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When the cast is out in the street, the background noise sounds like midtown Manhattan traffic with frequent car horns blaring. Mayberry is a small, quiet, rural town in North Carolina where the viewer rarely even sees a car drive by let alone a traffic jam. This "goof" occurs throughout the entire run of the series.
