- As Aunt Bee's birthday approaches, she makes a point of telling Andy that she doesn't want anything frivolous as a gift. Soon after, however, she sees a bed jacket in a local store window and hints broadly to Andy what she thinks of it. It takes a tip from Bee's friend Clara, however, to get him on the right track. Unfortunately, the Mayor has just bought the last bed jacket for his wife, but he's ready to extract a high price from Andy to sell it to him - namely, Andy's favorite fishing rod.—garykmcd
- Aunt Bee's birthday is just around the corner, but she makes a point of telling Andy that she doesn't want anything fancy; however, she may have changed her mind when she falls in love with a lovely bed jacket displayed in the window of Luken's Style Shop. She hints broadly to Andy that this might be the perfect present for her, but Andy misses the hint. A misunderstanding leaves Bee thinking that she's getting the bed jacket, but she is broken-hearted when her gift turns out to be a collection of jars for putting up preserves and leaves the house in tears. After a tip from Clara, Andy understands that a mess has been created and desperately tries to track down the bed jacket. It has already been sold, however, to Mayor Stoner. Stoner makes him a deal: The bed jacket for Andy's lucky fishing rod, "Eagle-Eye Annie," which Stoner had earlier been trying to purchase from the good sheriff. He makes the trade and also makes Aunt Bee's birthday perfect. He explains to Opie that since Eagle-Eye Annie gave him so much pleasure, he has now traded it in for a different kind of pleasure, the pleasure of seeing Aunt Bee happy. Just as Andy and Opie and Aunt Bee sit down for cake, Mayor Stoner shows up in a panic. It seems his wife Mabel knows that he bought the bed jacket but thinks that he bought it for another woman. Andy makes a deal, he'll straighten things out with Mabel if the mayor is willing to give back the fishing rod.—J. Roberts <armchairoscars@hotmail.com>
