Helen Crump wrote the book, and logic should have been that Andy takes her to Hollywood, and she should have been the star of the Hollywood episodes. Aunt Bee should have stayed home with dopie Opie, to keep Jack Burns and Goober from destroying Mayberry.
Instead, we get all the typical dumb hick stuff from Aunt Bee, who was very nice but written as just another hillbilly out in Hollywood. Wow, room service! Wow color TV! Wow, cameras and ice cream! Wow fast food! Wow fancy cars! Where was Buddy Ebsen? They should have done a Beverly Hillbillies crossover episode.
It could have been about Andy & Helen having a great time in Tinsel Town. Instead it was Aunt Bee wondering about the marvels of Hollywood, and mostly sitting in her hotel room. It was almost kind of sad, but that is due to writing. It made the best virtues of Aunt Bee seem like handicaps.
This four-part Hollywood trip was also a missed opportunity for Deputy Warren to just disappear.
