Mayberry gussies up for a Hollywood film crew - exactly what the visiting Hollywood producer and Andy don't want.

The town council meets with Mr. Harmon, a Hollywood movie producer who wants to use Mayberry as a location for his latest picture. Dead-set against it, the council fears Harmon using the opportunity to poke fun at the townsfolk and their southern ways. Andy, the lone voice in favor, offers to walk the man around town and talk to him to find out what his intentions are. Harmon is charmed by the town's simple, laid-back manner and assures Andy that his intentions are completely honorable. The council now approves, but the news excites the town and incites the citizens of Mayberry to begin to put on airs, dressing up in ridiculous clothes and changing their storefronts to look more Hollywood. Aghast, Andy tries to warn the town that this isn't what drew Harmon to want to make a movie in Mayberry, but no one will listen. The town council sets up a silly welcoming ceremony that, for some reason, involves cutting down the oldest oak tree in town. Harmon returns and is as disappointed in the townsfolk as Andy, reminding them that the reason he chose Mayberry was for its sweet gentility and natural charm. When a Hollywood producer wants to make a picture in Mayberry, most on the town council think he might ridicule the town or its people. Andy takes Mr. Harmon on a tour of Mayberry and satisfies them that the man has no intention of poking fun at anything. The Mayberry Gazette prints the story under a banner headline and the whole town goes crazy decorating businesses and themselves ala Holywood. Despite Andy's objections, Barney, the council, and even Aunt Bee and Opie are caught up in the hysteria. When Mr. Harmon returns, he cannot believe what he sees and pleads that things return to normal so he can make his movie.—bobbymaxwell

When a Hollywood producer proposes to make his next movie in Mayberry, the town council is suspicious of his motives, so Andy offers to show him around town in the hope that his true colors will show through if they spend a bit of time together. When they finally give him the go ahead, the news spreads like wildfire and the townsfolk go out of their way to make the town look better. In fact, they ruin it and remove all of the charm that brought the producer there in the first place.—garykmcd
