A dangerous game
Tweekums27 July 2018
As this episode opens a slip-fighter pilot reports that he is the sole survivor of a battle between Commonwealth and Nietzschean forces. Andromeda and her crew go to investigate but find none of the debris one would expect from such a battle. The Nietzscheans on the planet deny all knowledge of any battle and invite Dylan down to their planet to discuss matters. As he heads down his fighter, and Andromeda, are struck by a solar storm. This causes Andromeda's defence system to release a hallucinogenic gas which affects the crew. Once on the planet Dylan finds himself forced to fight a variety of foes while the people running the planet take bets on the outcome. It isn't long before Dylan suspects that not everything is real... figuring out what is and what isn't real won't be easy though.

This episode was rather fun even though the idea of putting a protagonist in an unreal, but still dangerous, situation is hardly new. That doesn't matter too much as it is an interesting idea that keeps the viewer guessing as to whether what, if anything, we see is real. At times it looks as if he is out and the only easy way to determine whether he has or not is to look at the clock to see it the episode is nearly over. Another cliché is having Dylan fight 'himself' while Rommie must decide which is real; again this wasn't a problem as the scene was impressively executed. Overall a decent episode despite the Clichés.
