When the insurance salesman tells Archie that there is a spot on his liver, Archie asks about a liver transplant. The salesman says "they don't do that yet". The first liver transplant was done in 1963. The first successful liver transplant was performed in 1967. Since the series took place in real time it was 1978 at the time of this conversation.
