The return of Rambaldi to the story line
Tweekums4 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
When the team are called in for the latest mission Sloane tells them that he will be having nothing to do with their next operation as it involves a former contact of his, Anna Espinosa, who shared his interest in the works of Milo Rambaldi. It seems that Anna is several steps ahead of the people at APO as she manages to kidnap Nadia and tells Sydney that she will kill her sister if she doesn't do a job for her. The job is to meet a contact in order to purchase an item. This doesn't sound to difficult but as payment he expects Sydney to kill a man for him and bring a severed finger as proof that she did it. It isn't giving away too much to say that Sydney didn't murder anybody but she did go far enough to allow the deal to go ahead. The item was very dangerous so as soon as Nadia is freed APO is working on a way to get the item back; this includes letting an old enemy think he has escaped from custody. While Vaughn and Marcus track this enemy to the supposed headquarters of Anna's organisation Sydney and Nadia go after Anna and the itemÂ… despite Sloane warning that if they went on this operation together only one of them will return, and as the credits began it looked as if he might have been right!

This was a pretty good episode, it was nice to see Sark again, David Anders is excellent in the role. It was also good that the series has returned to the followers of Rambaldi; things tend to get interesting when his devices and prophecies appear. There was even less closure than usual at the end of this episode which avoids rushing too quickly into the latest Rambaldi story line.

It's official: "Alias" is back on the right track
gridoon20244 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
When Sydney's old enemy Anna Espinosa resurfaces, Sloane temporarily surrenders the command of the APO unit to Jack Bristow, because Anna is among the list of names that Sloane is not allowed to deal with. Jack sends his daughter to find out what Anna is up to - but Anna is not an easy target: she kidnaps Nadia and forces Sydney to carry out a dangerous assignment posing as her. It turns out that Anna is working for CRF, a terrorist group that consists mostly of ex-Covenant members; and who does the CIA have in custody with strong Covenant ties? Sark, that's right. But will they get the information they need from him in time, before CRF finishes building....whatever it is they're building? Well, it took them a while, but finally the "Alias" we love is back: "Echoes" is a perfect combination of action "in the moment" (like the highly entertaining Sydney-Anna fight inside a Beverly Hills boutique) and larger, continuing story lines that develop over many episodes. Rambaldi is back, the cliffhangers are back, the Covenant - OK, it's CRF now - is back, Sark is back (and he never should have left, to be honest: David Anders is awesome), Anna Espinosa is back (Gina Torres is an Amazon, I always come back to this word to describe her) - and if all that is not enough, Nadia kills a guy with her belt! Gotta love that. *** out of 4.

When good shows go bad 👎
beccaboerger13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is the stupidest team of agents ever. When has Sidney ever completed a clean assignment, without shootouts, knife fights kickboxing, or an emergency rescue AT BEST, and usually requiring all of those without completing mission objectives. So, in this episode, her sister was abducted under her nose, she had a pointless fight with Anna E in an expensive boutique, which would have risked blowing her cover if everyone in the universe wasn't already aware she was an agent, and then she and Nadia are sent to take on a crucial meeting by themselves, which - OH BIG SURPRISE - goes bad. Meanwhile Sark once again outwits Vaughn's idiotic plan. Marshall is obnoxious but we're supposed to think it's cute. Sloane isn't supposed to be anywhere near these operations, but he continues to wander freely around the office, giving advice and getting briefed.

And who designed the obnoxious intro? Shots of all Sidney's disguises and outfits just get boring after a while. This show should have ended after season 3.
