Jack Hartington is staying with his Uncle George while cramming for his law exams. They enjoy a daily round of golf but when his uncle goes off to join his family on the Continent, Jack continues his golf round alone. One morning however, he hears a woman screaming for help. He goes to the nearest cottage where a pretty Frenchwoman, Felise, who says she heard nothing. Jack then asks a recent acquaintance, Dr. Lavington, to join him in a round of golf. When he hears the screams again, it's apparent Lavington hears nothing and Jack collapses. On hearing Jack's story, Lavington agrees to help him get to the bottom of the mystery. Only Jack is a pawn in a deliberate deception with a valuable objet d'art at the root of it all.
