- After rescuing a cat owned by eccentric Mrs. Peabody (Elizabeth Patterson), cub reporter Jimmy Olsen (Jack Larson) is given a reward--of one million dollars! Much to the dismay of his friends Clark (George Reeves) and Lois (Noel Neill), Jimmy begins throwing away his money on useless creature comforts, including a butler named Herbert (Leonard Carey), who turns out to be in cahoots with con man Stacy Tracey (Richard Reeves). First attempting to defraud Jimmy, Stracy ends up locking the neophyte millionaire and Lois in a safe--whereupon the pair is forced to incinerate "Olsen's millions" in order to create smoke signals that will summon Superman to their rescue.—anyamarie42
- Jimmy Olsen goes to the apartment of a very rich older woman to interview her for "The Daily Planet." When he asks her why she goes out of her way to take in alley cats, she responds, "An alley is no place for a cat." As exemplified by the way that she keeps her safe open, she is not particularly careful of her millions. When they are talking, one of the several cats in her apartment walks into the safe and the safe door somehow closes and becomes locked. When the rich woman runs out of the room for help, the omniscient Superman, flies into the apartment window and rips the door off of the safe, saving the cat. When the rich woman comes back into the room and sees that the alley cat has been saved, she declares "Jimmy Olsen, I am going to give you a million dollars." To the dismay of his colleagues, Jimmy then goes out of control with irresponsible spending, beginning with a row boat, oars and all, that he has in his apartment. Of course, he has quit his job at the Daily Planet as a cub reporter. Spoiler alert: But some bad guys grab Jimmy and Lois and lock them up in a room that is lead lined, so Superman cannot see them through the walls of the building. They discover a hole in the wall that is connected to a chimney. Jimmy says he knows Morse code to be able to send a SOS message to Superman, whom they assume is circling above them. All they need to do is start a small fire in that hole in the wall. But the propriety of the times and of the children's show greatly inhibits them: Jimmy's shirt has become soaked. He cannot remove and burn his trousers in front of Lois. Lois certainly isn't going to remove for burning her blouse or skirt, even if Jimmy offers to buy one of those items for fifty thousand dollars. The only thing they have to burn is the remainder of Jimmy's million dollars. Thus, they can send the SOS message to Superman up above, Superman gets the message and rescues them, and Jimmy asks Perry White for his job back at the Daily Planet.
