Adventures of Superman (1952)

Goofs

Mystery of the Broken Statues

Adventures of Superman

Edit

Continuity

Both Tristram Coffin and Phillip Pine appear in this episode (as different characters) after just having been in the previous episode.

Factual errors

Clark declares that the found objects make up a puzzle known as a rebus. He randomly draws pictures on a blackboard representing each object, yet he has no information on which order to place them, e.g., smallest to largest, or first to last found, etc. One item was a cow, but he records it as "moo." Then he arbitrarily decides when to add and subtract various items, and ends up with the correct solution in minutes. In actuality, there was an infinite number of possibilities, depending on how the items were arranged and manipulated.

Miscellaneous

The "bad guys" race to the airport and put Lois Lane into a Beechcraft twin-engine airplane. Moments later, a Douglas DC-3 is shown being stopped by Superman as it attempts to take off.
When Superman stops the plane taking off on the runway by grabbing on to the tail, tires are heard screeching/skidding. Since no brakes were used to stop the plane from taking off, the tires would make no noise.

Plot holes

The clues Clark deciphers from the objects found in the statues are in a sequence, when in reality, they could be in any order, making the actual clues much more difficult or virtually impossible to figure out.

Character error

The first shopkeeper describes the two statuette-smashing men to Lois as, generally, a sophisticated-looking gentleman and another man. Shortly thereafter, Lois describes the same two men to the second shopkeeper as a tall man and a short one - descriptors not used by the first shopkeeper.
