When they pull over the green Chevy for a brake light out, both brake lights are clearly working.
When the kid comes out of the bank, he says the man is listening to everything he says via the walkie-talkie on the kid's belt. That indicates the mic must be keyed. Yet the man is also able to speak to the kid. Walkie-talkies are not able to send and receive at the same time.

The coerced bank robber could have simply removed the backpack since it obviously wasn't wired to explode if tampered or removed.
