The very short film clip of a parade was from the 1966 Tournament of Roses Parade. The band shown is the Castleberry (High School) Lions Band, directed by Mr Layton B. Keith, from River Oaks (Ft Worth), Texas. They were the very first High School band from the State of Texas to be invited to march in this iconic parade.
This is the only time that the theme song is not played at the beginning.
Except for Martin Milner's storyline voice over narration as Malloy and series creator Jack Webb's voice over introduction and close, there is no dialogue.
Malloy says that 66% percent of recruits fail the written exam (of 100 applicants, only 34 pass); 15% fail the oral exam (of 34 candidates, only 29 pass); 50% can't pass the physical (of 29 trainees, only 14-15 pass). This means that only about 15% of applicants eventually become police officers.
