- A widow breaks into Jeff's apartment to entice him to prove her husband was murdered, rather than committed suicide. Jeff runs into multiple suspects since the dead man was a philanderer. He also gets kidnapped and warned off of the case. Kookie assists in the tailing of suspects.
- Jeff meets his latest client in an unusual manner, she, seductive Margie Wilson who wants him to prove that her commercial insurance salesman husband, Fred Wilson, did not commit suicide as was the officially recorded cause of death, but that he was really murdered. As she was separated from him at the time due to his philandering among other issues, she did and does not hide that she did and does not grieve his death. She, the beneficiary listed on his $25,000 life insurance policy, received nothing in his death being suicide. As such, she will pay Jeff $5,000 if and only if he is able to prove he was murdered and she subsequently getting that insurance money. One corroborating piece of evidence she did not mention to the police at the time was that he had a bill of sale for the upcoming purchase of a $7,000 boat - money he would not have had - an action of someone not contemplating suicide, and in the belief that money was going to come from somewhere soon. Fred's boss, Philip Harkins, provides Jeff unfettered access to the office, including to the fourth floor office window from where Fred purportedly jumped. At the office, Jeff finds that Fred's philandering didn't fall far from his day to day travels, among his conquests vulnerable single receptionist Alice Beasley, and Rita Courtney, the wife of colleague Drexel Courtney, providing many associated with the company not only motive but access to murder. But Jeff can't rule out Margie as the murderer, she who may have wanted to have her cake and eat it too in hiring Jeff. He may find that where Fred was planning to get the $7,000 to buy the boat is the key.—Huggo
