- Heine and Mike were pitchers on rival baseball nines and also both were rivals for the hand of the widow Murphy. The widow was coy and kept them both in suspense. The widow liked fish and respected a man who could bring in a fine catch after a day at the seashore, so Mike set out to win fame as a fisherman. Heine chanced to be at the shore on the same errand below the dock from which Mike was fishing. Mike had great luck and caught a number of fish, but each time as he pulled them in. Heine detached them from his line. Much discouraged, Mike returned home to find Heine displaying a large catch of fish to the smiling widow. Mike, however, learned of Heine's perfidy and denounced him to the widow. Heine was in disgrace, but bided his time waiting for the great baseball game. The eventful day arrived. Heine pitched a good game for his team, but much to Mike's anguish insisted upon hitting Mike whenever he came to bat. Retaliation was out of the question, for Heine wore a football headpiece. The widow was impartial with her smiles, and the anger of Heine and Mike grew. The game was never finished, for it ended in a free fight. Mike trounced Heine thoroughly, and proudly left the grounds with the widow.—Moving Picture World synopsis
