Factual errors

Gus's company car is a Toyota Echo hatchback, which was only made available to Canadian consumers.
Unless Henry was secretly a multaimillionaire, there's no way that he could have afforded a home near the beach in Santa Barbara, especially being retired. A house in that area would be worth nearly a million dollars (for a tiny home) and up to $10-15 million for a multi-bedroom dwelling. The taxes alone would make the home unaffordable, especially considering that he is a retired police officer who was not the department chief.
Shawn often undertakes actions which would result in evidence and investigation being compromised. Since he has never been a police officer, these actions could result in cases being dropped or overturned upon appeal. There is no way that the Santa Barbara District Attorney would allow Shawn to perform the actions that he does.
We see Shawn constantly ask detectives Lassiter and/or O'Hara to put out APB's (All Points Bulletins) or BOLOs (Be On the Look Out) to bring suspects and witnesses in. When found the Santa Barbra Police brings them to the station for Shawn and the detective's to interview even though it's pretty clear they didn't want to come. If there is no probable cause for an arrest or an active arrest warrant, the police can't make you go anywhere against your will. Once in a while, a wealthy or educated person will assert this and ask a lawyer to be present but this is rare.

Revealing mistakes

Every time Gus uses his Windows computer, his screen displays as though it's an Apple. And vice versa goes to Shawn - every time he uses his Apple computer, it displays like it's a Windows.

Errors in geography

Gus & Shawn will occasionally mention eating Japadogs, which at the time of filming, were street vendors located only in Vancouver, Canada where the show was filmed and not in Santa Barbara, California where it is supposed to take place.
