A very good series about a Dutch family in the Twente region
soeperik9 August 2006
The dialect of the Dutch Twente region (in the province Overijssel) has become, as many other dialects and accents, more and more unpopular in the past few years. The Twentse cabaret artist Herman Finkers initiated what has become the 'regiosoap' Van Jonge Leu en Oale Groond ('Of Young Folk and Old Soil' in Twents), along with director Johan Nijenhuis. It is has become a high-quality soap. Interesting perspectives and not the overdone trouble scenario one might expect in a soap-opera character. Every episode is filmed on location in Twente, and above all, every dialogue is spoken in the Twente dialect. 'Van Jonge Leu', as it is called in popular language, has also caused a wave of so-called regionsoaps in other Dutch dialects. There are rumors of a Limburg soap and a show situated in Amsterdam, both with their own (to Dutch) distinctive dialects and accents.
