- The story revolves around two childhood friends Arjun (Ajay Devgn) and Manjit "Mannu" Khosla (Salman Khan). Arjun wants to become a music star, so he inadvertently asks God for his father's death, who doesn't want him to be associated with music at all. It is implied that the current poverty of Arjun's family is due to the failure of Arjun's grandfather in his music career. Meanwhile Mannu is a natural talent for music & his family is fully supportive of his talent, but Mannu himself keeps running away from it & wastes his life away in juvenile pursuits, like looking up the skirts of school going girls.
Upon Arjun's father's death, Arjun's uncle Kanjeshwar (Om Puri) takes him to London with him. His uncle hates music as well & warns Arjun to give up his musical aspirations. Arjun runs away from his uncle and does all sorts of odd jobs to fund his music training. Arjun grows up into an adult and creates a fledgling band with Zoheb (Rannvijay Singh) and Wasim (Aditya Roy Kapoor), two brothers who duped their relatives in Pakistan to travel to London in pursuit of their musical aspirations. He also brings aboard Priya (Asin), a music enthusiast from a conservative South Indian family but has the ambition to break into the pop dance world. Arjun has a crush on Priya.
Kanjeshwar runs a street food stall, which Arjun visits from time to time. Kanjeshwar cannot recognize Arjun, now that he is a grown-up, but realizes that Arjun is his nephew when Zoheb and Wasim call him by name in front of Kanjeshwar.
Arjun does an impromptu gig at Trafalgar Square, for which he is arrested, but gets the attention of Blockbuster music's head of auditions, who invites him for a screening test. Arjun & his band ace the test & get a deal with Blockbuster music. All this while, Mannu has been in constant touch with Arjun. Back in London, Arjun falls in love with Mannu. But Arjun doesn't disclose his feelings to Priya as he wants to be successful first. Arjun has the ambition to play at the Wembley stadium and fill it with his audience. It is shown that Arjun administers lashes to himself as punishment for wishing his own father's death. Arjun's grandfather was a famous singer in the village. As part of the Government cultural event, he was sent to Wembley stadium to sing in front of 90,000 fans. But he froze and felt so humiliated that he committed suicide.
Back in India, Mannu seduces married women and finds himself in debt with the locals. Arjun is now rich & decides to travel to India. After paying Mannu's debt (part of the debt is from all the ISD calls that Mannu made to Arjun), Mannu goes to London to join Arjun's band, upon Arjun's invitation. Mannu becomes the 2nd lead singer & end up being more popular with the crowds than Arjun. Mannu jumps into the crowd and is carried by them, which was Arjun's dream. Mannu also flirts with Priya, who is earlier shown to have been flirting with Arjun. Arjun becomes jealous when Mannu ends up hogging all the limelight in the after parties & in front of the press. Kanjeshwar meets Arjun after all these years, while watching his show on TV, & comes to meet him and ask for forgiveness.
Mannu is immensely talented & soon this is apparent to Arjun & every member of his band. Mannu changes the musical composition of Arjun's songs, making them sound much better. Mannu is has good intentions, he only wants to help Arjun. But Arjun decides to destroy Mannu. Priya's father finds out about her involvement with the band and is devastated, forcing Arjun to meet Priya's father. Priya's father is impressed with Arjun's devotion to music and his dream and allow Priya to follow her own.
The band embarks on a three-city tour spanning Paris, Rome and Amsterdam. In Paris, Priya also falls in love with Mannu, who promises to be loyal to her alone. Arjun sees this and gets really mad. Arjun deceives a naive Mannu into a roller-coaster ride of promiscuous sex and illicit drugs. He tricks him, gets him addicted to drugs, and then gets him arrested in a car full of them. While pretending to help Mannu, Arjun leaks the drug story to the press.
As the three-city tour concludes, the band heads to London to perform at Wembley Stadium in front of an audience estimated at 90,000 (which is of significance since, earlier in the movie, the viewer is told that Arjun's grandfather had failed before a similar audience). Knowing how important this is for Arjun, Mannu tries to give up drugs. But Arjun decides that his success and Mannu's total failure are related. He pays a girl to pretend to have oral sex with Mannu, which makes Priya break up with Mannu. In this fragile state, Zoheb pushes Mannu toward drugs again so that he can't come on stage.
In the moments leading up to the stage entrance, Mannu comes to senses and chooses the righteous path and runs to support his mate. But Arjun, who has become incensed with the crowd chanting Mannu's name, confesses his envy of Mannu's talent and what he did to finish Mannu off. The audience boos Arjun, the band breaks up and a sad Mannu goes back to his village.
Arjun's uncle (Om Puri) advises him to apologize to Mannu. Then it is revealed that after knowing the truth Priya and Mannu reconcile. Also, she marries Mannu and lives with him in his village. In the village, however, Mannu tells Arjun not to apologize saying that it was his fault that he didn't see Arjun's sorrow and Priya also pardons Arjun for his wrong deeds. They get back together, and London Dreams becomes a successful band again.
