Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman issued a royal decree allowing women to drive in the country for the first time ever… and Twitter was not especially impressed by the country allowing women a basic right. The crown prince has integrated women more into the country’s economy by relaxing the country’s long-held rules, dictated by Wahhabi Islam. The country has also expanded government services women can access without permission from their husbands or fathers, and allowed women to be elected to municipal councils. Meanwhile, in the United States, Chelsea Handler and other members of the Twitterati weighed in.

Norway’s royal heartthrob Marius Borg Høiby was pictured last week with one arm around his new girlfriend and the other in a cast.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit‘s son broke his arm at a party while attempting a somersault, according to Norwegian magazine Se Og Hør.
But the 19-year-old’s acrobatic tumble didn’t lead to him landing on his feet, the magazine says — but very painfully crashing down on to his right hand and forearm.
Borg Høiby was photographed at Oslo’s Horse Show last weekend where he took Linn Helena Nilsen, 20, to meet other royal family members.

After 70 years on the throne, Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej has died.
The world’s longest-reigning monarch — who was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has ruled the Southeast Asian country since 1946 — passed away on Thursday, the palace has announced. He was 88.
According to the palace, the king died “peacefully” at 3:53 pm local time at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital. “Even though the board of doctors has closely monitored and treated him to the best of its abilities, the king’s condition never improved but deteriorated until Thursday,” the palace said.
King Bhumibol had been ill for years, suffering from kidney failure.

The Face Reader
Sometimes in the Korean film industry, when a movie or drama does exceptionally well, it can trigger spin-offs directly or loosely related to the original. Such is the case with The Face Reader and The King’s Face. Both the movie and the drama are set in the Joseon era of Korean history and focus on the art of physiognomy. While The Face Reader is the source of inspiration and The King’s Face is the spin-off, they tell two totally different stories.
The Face Reader tells the story of Nae Kyung, a master face reader with a sketchy family history. The burden of his family’s past drives him, his son and his brother-in-law to take drastic actions. As expected, Nae Kyung uses his exceptional skills to earn money and status. Accompanied by his brother-in-law, they soon find themselves entrenched in palace politics and very real danger.

While making Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I’m sure there was a lot of discussion about what and who they wanted to have in the movie. A lot of that stuff never made it into the final cut. For example, in a recent interview with Collider, Zack Snyder revealed that The Joker and The Riddler almost made it into the film. This is what he said about that:
"The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie. We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict."
There were rumors that...

The fifth episode of The Man in the High Castle deals with the fallout of the shooting of the crown prince, while also sending lead characters Juliana (Alexa Davalos) and Joe (Luke Kleintank) to opposite sides of the country. It's a tight, well-directed, and promising set-up for what's to come as we arrive at the halfway point of this season's narrative arc."The New Normal" picks up immediately after the end of the last episode. The crown prince of Japan was indeed shot, but not by a vengeful Frank Frink (Rupert Evans). As panic ensues, people see Frank with a gun in the crowd and blood on his hand. He drops Juliana's locket as he flees, hiding the weapon as medics tend to the crown prince. Wegener (Carsten Norgaard), Kido (Joel de la Fuente), and Tagomi (Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa) look on with concern. Of course, the area around the assassination...

World premiere of Nordic disaster movie The Wave to open festival in Haugesund.
Joachim Trier’s Louder Than Bombs, starring Jesse Eisenberg, has been named as the closing film of the 43rd Norwegian International Film Festival (Aug 16-21) in Haugesund.
The drama, about how a father and his two sons confront their feelings of their deceased wife and mother, was Norway’s first Palme d’Or contender at Cannes in 36 years and is set to play at Toronto next month.
As previously announced, Niff will open with the world premiere of Roar Uthaug’s disaster movie, The Wave (Bølgen), when the festival is launched by Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon on Aug 16.
It means Norwegian films will both open and close the festival.
Tonje Hardersen, who was named the new Niff festival director in March, said: “I am very happy to see that local cinema is so well represented, and in so many genres.”
