Man of the Year

Continuity

When Eleanor is in her hotel room, Wheel of Fortune (1983) is playing on her TV, you can hear the contestant say, she wants the letter "S," the host then says "Yeah, there are two of them" and then when there is a close up of the TV, you can clearly see there are three S's on the board.
When the people who break into Eleanor's motel room are in it, her door changes from being open to being closed and then open again.
Dobbs has wedding ring shown in scenes prior to marrying.
During the heavy snow scenes, only the cars in close-ups appeared to be using their windshield wipers.
In Eleanor's motel room Wheel of Fortune is on the TV. A lady calls for S -there were 2; a man calls for N - there were 2; Next a woman calls for L. The first lady's turn should have continued because her letter was on the board, not passed to the man or passed to the other woman.

Factual errors

President-Elect Dobbs us appearing to be choosing his Vice President after the election. Vice Presidential candidates are on the ballot along with the Presidential candidates.
When President Elect Dobbs leaves his dressing room to perform on Saturday Night Live (1975), no secret service agents are guarding his door, nor do any follow him to the stage set.
Since both the President and Vice President were elected by the same computer glitch, the President would have to be elected by the House of Representatives and the Vice-President by the Senate.
Immediately after the election, Secret Service members refer to Dobbs as "Mr. President," instead of the proper "Mr. President-Elect."
In the movie, Delacroy wins the national contract to supply all voting machines for the upcoming election. All conditions for national elections are determined by each state, and not on a national level, so no National contract exists. In 2020, one company, Dominion Voting Systems, supplied vote tabulation machines to counties in over 30 states. Plus, a computer "glitch" is over counting votes.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Dobbs uses the new computer to cast his vote, the screen gives him four choices of language: English, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. Although the language choices should be displayed in the native language rather than in English, many such devices often do not respect that convention and this could be another indication of bad Delacroy programming.
When Eleanor goes to the vending machine to get a soda and it will not take her dollar so she goes to the hotel clerk for change. Eleanor takes a one and a five dollar bill from her wallet, handing the clerk the five instead of the one. This explains why when she is seen exiting, she is carrying one dollar bills.
At one point, Dobbs makes a joke that if Cass Elliot (Mama Cass) had given Karen Carpenter her sandwich, both of them would be alive. link=nm0254177] died of a heart attack, not, as is commonly believed, by choking on a sandwich.

Revealing mistakes

In the beginning of the movie, after Dobbs has made his unexpected announcement of running for office, there is a screenshot of The Washington Post, with his story at the bottom center. Another story, in column one, has a headline referring to Iran and U.N. inspectors, while a third story, in column five, is about a link between genetics and diabetes. If one freezes the frame and reads both of these stories, it is apparent that the one on the far left has nothing about Iran, the U.N., or any inspectors, and is actually more about diet and diabetes, thus it is a continuation of the right-most story.
When the group is playing paintball, at least one of the players doesn't have a hopper on their gun.
Near the beginning of the film, the front page of The Washington Post is shown. There is an article on Dobbs, center-bottom. It starts off about him, but quickly becomes an esoteric discussion on humor for the next two columns, something with little relation to the main idea, i.e., 'comedian runs for highest office in the land.'

Crew or equipment visible

While Eleanor is standing at the vending machine at the motel, a black car drives by from right to left. The camera is visible in the reflection off the side of the car.
In the scene where Eleanor leaves her bathroom before she is assaulted, the camera can be seen in the tiles on the left, just before she turns the lights out.

Errors in geography

There would be no locations along any limited access highway in the Washington, DC area where one could park his car along the shoulder and use a payphone next to a lane of travel.
The movie is supposed to take place in Washington, yet it is quite clear at several parts of the film that the actual filming location is Toronto. This includes the obvious glass ceiling of the BCE Place and the road signs while the characters are driving.

Plot holes

When the voting machine is shown in action, it shows the votes for each candidate and then calculates the winner. However, since the vote count can be seen, there is no need to calculate a winner. Also, a person could tell which vote count is higher and would not believe the calculations.

Character error

Tom Dobbs says: "NASA spent $28 Million creating the pen that would write upside down in space. Did you know that? The Russians, how ever, were able to solve this problem with a five-cent pencil! Writes right side up, writes up-side down. After five quarts of vodka, is still writing!" In reality, pencils were originally used by the American and Russian space programs but were discarded because they were impractical for usage in outer space: The wooden barrel is flammable, and the graphite dust generated conducts electricity.
When President-Elect Dobbs addresses Congress in costume, he begins by saying "Thank you Mr. Chairman." There is no Chairman in Congress. He should have said Mr. Speaker.
In the Laundromat, there is a sign in the background indicating no rollerskating, etc... Rollerskating is spelled "rollerscating." In fact this same sign also has the word "Strictly" spelled as "Stricly."
