A fun look at the filming locations of Phantasm
Handlebar moustachioed Reggie Bannister returns as our host for a tour of filming locations of probably my third favourite film ever, the original Phantasm.
First, we visit the fortune teller's house, located in Woodlawn Hills, and Reggie tells us that apparently the house's owners were not happy with how little footage of their home was used in the final cut of the film , before heading south, to Pacific Palisades, for a look at Mike and Jody's home, where Reggie drove up in his truck, before he and Jody had their little jam session, which Bill Thornbury talks briefly about its composition, and filming. Bannister walks up the driveway and knocks at the door, but alas, there is nobody home.
Chatsworth Park, which doubled for the cemetery grounds is next, (Reggie mentions the parking lot which was not there when they filmed. "We're older than the parking lot!" he jokes) before a visit to Cobb Estate in Altadena, home of Morningside's entrance gates, as Reggie reminisces about filming back in 1977.
Finally, a banter between Reggie, and series creator Don Coscarelli, whilst sitting on the rocks at Santa Fe dam in Irwindale, which became the Red Planet.
Phantasm Genesis is an interesting look behind the scenes at some of the stunts performed, by this has more charm of its own, doubtlessly given Reggie's likable personality.
