Original Length Cut by all BBC repeats
garysignature23 November 2018
The original length for each episode was around 58 mins. If you made v-t recordings of BBC's original transmission from 1993, as I did, preserve them, as the BBC should have done. BBC have not learned from its days of wiping programmes. Nowadays, after first screenings, BBC lease series out to syndication, and networks cut the length to insert advertisements. Then when BBC wants to repeat a series years later, it gets a syndicated copy. And that's how HOLLYWOOD UK ends up at 45 mins per episode and misinformation of the programme length propagates. Over the 5 episodes, approx 1 hour and 5 mins is missing every time BBC have repeated the series. Same thing happened to Adam Curtis's 1992 series PANDORA'S BOX. It's what the BBC does, and doesn't even know it is doing it. Once again it is down to the viewer to take responsibility for archiving programmes.
