a no budget masterpiece!!

It is a harsh world when the talents of Steve Sessions are forced to remain ina category such as "B Horror" or "low/no budget films". These categories have gained a massive cult following due to their obvious disregard for the mainstream (which is extremely "hip" these days). But the lack of funds has been the only thing holding Mr. Sessions back from fully showing is potential that could very well mirror Van Sant or Milos Forman in his respected genre.

Southern Gothic, Sessions craftiest work to date, is a wonderful example of the miraculous storytelling capabilities and talents in which Steve Holds. The lack of great visual effects does not throw of the gripping story line. The visual effects that are in existence, show a strong sense of showmanship for filmmaker waiting to break out. Sessions has managed to use every positive principal he can get his hands on to outweigh all the negatives against him. Terrific acting performances by Jeff Dylan Graham and Lucien Eisenach tremendously impact the power of Session's screenplay.

The sad truth is that Southern Gothic will not be viewed in a way to find any positives. The severe off key budget works will taint the performances, story, and desperate cinematography. But, when a true fan of film can look past the minor details (i.e. money) and see the beauty and hard work that has been put into the film, everyone's eyes will be reopened to the soul of the artist behind the work. Looking at Da Vinci's masterpieces can be entertaining, but it's when stand to feel what Leonardo was going for as an artist, then the excitement will kick in.

To summarize, it's a damn good movie. Despite how much money was put behind it. Art is art. Life is life. Money is sh*t.
