- Ciro, a Bronx hood whose sense of loyalty is being tested after he's accused of killing one of his partners. Haunted by his fathers unsolved murder twenty years earlier, Ciro is conflicted with protecting the people (Chuck Zito, Peter Greene) who have always looked out for him.
- Ciro picks up Lonigan and brings him down to the Long Island Sound in Pelham Bay Park. Matty, Baby John, Charlie and Gannon drag Lonigan out of the car, drag him down to the beach, throw him in a pit of broken glass and light him on fire. This action simply sets off a time bomb for these Bronx hoods that live their lives in a code. Ciro is bothered by the killing because Lonigan was a great friend to him and his business partner. There's chatter in the neighborhood about Ciro killing Lonigan because others believed that Lonigan was sleeping with Ciro's girlfriend Evelyn. Detective Flynt is on the case. Just another day in the Bronx for him, but it's not for this case. Reason being is it leads the detective to the apartment door of Ciro. Flynt knows this door, this place, these people because twenty five years earlier Detective Flynt was working the case of Ciro's father. His father was chopped up and found in the trunk of a car. Never to be solved. Ciro is haunted by his fathers unsolved murder and feels obligated to stay with his fathers crew of Matty, Baby John, Charlie and Gannon. The first time Evelyn was pregnant there was no question what Ciro and her were going to do. They had an abortion. Now this time, Ciro is the one who wants to have the baby. It's a second chance in this miserable world for the two of them to make up for their mistakes. Evelyn doesn't want the baby. She sees all the girls in the neighborhood living lives of despair with their children and doesn't want that life. She wants to do something with her life. She wants to take Ciro and leave this landfill with a blanket of grass over it, but Ciro won't leave. He's held there by the invisible chains of his fathers murder. When video evidence of Ciro picking up Lonigan emerges, Ciro finds himself in a corner of life and death when Detective Flynt picks him up and tells Ciro that the same guy he's protecting is the same people that killed his father. Why was Lonigan killed? Does Ciro do the right thing and keep quiet or do hidden circumstances make him turn on the only guys that have ever looked out for him. The cycle goes full circle in the Bronx and there's no end in sight as this movie takes twists and turns that could only be imagined in The Grasslands.
