Sex & Nudity

  • Man and woman having sex
  • One of the main characters is a sex-worker. The protagonist, his boss and the rest of the gang make frequent trips to brothels and strip clubs. Though there is no nudity, the scenes are very obviously sexual. (Deleted. Personal opinions about suitable viewing ages are not appropriate for the Parents Guide.)
  • Several mentions of having intercourse (okkuradhu).

Violence & Gore

  • Lot of killing scenes
  • This is one of the goriest movies out there. Though wounds are not explicitly shown, there are several instances of graphic violence, with blood sometimes being stylistically highlighted with a saturated Tomato red look.
  • The protagonist is threatened with an acid attack, and while he dodges the acid, it lands on another man's hand and the resulting injury is shown. Very gory and the layers of skin are visible.

Profanity

  • For a movie this explicit, the profanity is rather subtle. Swear words are used, but very sparingly. Most of them are used when the characters are pushed to the edge of their sanity or patience.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The protagonist is introduced to cocaine and other drugs for the first time. He is shown to be intoxicated by several substances along with his gangmates in a song sequence.
  • Lots of drinking, substance abuse, and drug smuggling.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The protagonist's mother is hacked to death by his father. At this stage, the protagonist is barely 18 and still in school (12th grader). Out of fear of being killed due to being a witness of his mother's murder, he literally pisses himself and escapes from his father and the local gang. Very upsetting scene and portrayed bleakly.
  • This movie is a very realistic depiction of politics, gang violence and survival instincts in TN, primarily Chennai. Only for mature audiences 16/18+.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The protagonist slashes his boss multiple times in the stomach on the pretext of falling at his feet for mercy. Then a shot outside of the boss's room is shown (which is inside a strip club). The protagonist walks out with his head and drops it in the middle of the floor while the rest of the people panic and leave. Extremely graphic and the head is dropped very close to the camera.
  • The protagonist's father is forced to be buried alive in a grave in the middle of a field on the orders of the protagonist himself. After the man refuses to fall into the grave, one of the henchmen hits him in the head with a shovel and they start burying him alive.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One of the female leads, a sex-worker, is physically assaulted by the protagonist's boss for refusing to have sex for money anymore. The boss slaps her, kicks her in the stomach and proceeds to cuss at her and even spit on her face. Gruesome and disgusting.
  • The protagonist's baby is feared to be murdered by the rival gang. Though the baby is later revealed to be safe, the anxiety in the scene is still uncomfortably prevalent.
  • The protagonist takes the final villain's boy as hostage to send the guarding women and mothers out of the room and attack the villain. Though the protagonist does not leave a scratch on the boy, he keeps the machete very close to his throat and the threat is very real.
  • The protagonist leaves behind his baby as he believes he is not capable of properly raising it. He puts the baby in a basket and leaves.
