The film "Souvenir", made in 1977 in the puppet film studio, is the world's first 3D puppet animation. In addition to Elbert Tuganov's "Souvenir", the 3D puppet film "When Men Sing" (pictured), created by Heino Pars in 1979, portraying Gustav Ernesaks and RAM, needed special equipment for showing, which was temporarily installed by Moscow technicians (in 1978-81) in the cinema Kosmos. Later, the equipment was returned to Moscow, and since then the cinema viewer has not had the opportunity to see these films on the big screen and stereoscopic.
As there was a lot of interest in films all over the world, Nukufilm started a project to dignify and restore film copies a year ago with the support of the Estonian Film Foundation and the Ministry of Culture. The films were located in Moscow at the Russian State Cinema Archives, the necessary technology was lacking in Estonia for their restoration, and the materials were in poor condition. However, the films managed to be dignified and restored by the autumn of this 2012.
The restored films will be an international success - they have just been screened at the Crossroads Festival in Bristol and are already expected to be at other festivals focused on showing 3D films.
