Rick Roberts' documentary film, "Service Above Self" is truly inspiring and a great testament to Rotary International's contribution to the world. The film crisscrosses the globe as it tells the 100 year history of Rotary International founded in Chicago in 1905. Rick narrates this television special sharing the compelling story of how four men in downtown Chicago began an organization "Rotary" that attempts to provide service to the disadvantaged such as the eradication of Polio throughout the world while expanding its membership to 166 countries.
In "Service Above Self" Roberts documents many of Rotary's impressive programs such as the Polio Plus Program (eradicating Polio throughout the world), Microlending Program (providing revolving loans for residents in 3rd world countries), Miracle Field Program (building baseball fields specially designed for disabled children), International Studies in Peace & Conflict Resolution Program (awarding fully funded scholarships to further peace and conflict resolution), Ambassadorial Scholarship Program (funding 1600 scholarships annually for students to study in a foreign country and act as an ambassador), Mobile Health Programs (bringing desperately needed dental services to the children of Romania), The Gift of Life Program (providing fully funded open heart surgery to over 6,000 children in 16 countries) and more
