Onésime (Ernest Bourbon) literally has a split personality in this film. Sometimes, his alter ego actually separates from him and goes off to have fun. This fun can get Onésime in trouble--such as when it sneaks away and makes passes at his girlfriend's maid! Eventually Onésime gets sick of this and attacks the alter ego--and much of the film becomes a trademark of the director, Jean Durand--a chase scene with, as always, a shelf being pulled off the wall onto the double Onésime. Durand must have gone through dozens of such fake pieces of furniture--as they are in so many of his films. This repetition is why the film gets a 9 and not a 10. But, I still give this one very high marks, as the use of double-exposure to create the double effect is amazingly good for 1912. A cute little comedy.
