Gracie (2007)

Gracie

Factual errors

Players are not allowed to initially set their own penalty kicks. The referee must set it first after measuring it off from the goal line and then the player may reset it in the same spot.
When Johnny was taking the penalty shot the goalie was lined up in front of the end line. In a soccer game, when a penalty shot is taken the goalie must be standing on the goal line.
When Gracie took the free kick her ball hit the cross bar and went out of bounds. The coach told her to get her head in the game and to get ready for the corner kick. In that situation Gracie's team was on the offensive and the ball was never touched by the opposing team. The call should have been a goal kick.

Anachronisms

The film is set in the late 1970's, yet the referees shown are wearing the gold jerseys that are standard today. Then, referees typically wore solid black jerseys with white cuffs and collars. Socks most frequently matched with a solid white top, rather than the three-striped sock. Referee jerseys changed in the 1990s to a fuchsia and black check pattern, and since around 2000 have changed to gold with black pin-striping as seen in the film.
In a scene where Gracie's mom and dad are talking in the basement, Gracie's mom is ironing laundry using an iron that is definitely post 1978, when the movie is set.
Shin guards were not required equipment during the 1970's and weren't required in international play and later high school play until the late 1980's, early 1990's.
