Following Ricky's departure, Marius is delighted to be forced to postpone his retirement indefinitely. Together with Hannah he defends a teenager who is suspected of throwing a street sign off a bridge, causing a fatal car crash. The teenager claims to be innocent, and that the real culprit trying blackmail him to confessing. Pim's former client Hendrik Hulsebos, a pyromaniac, is released from a mental hospital, but the residents of his birth town, where he committed his crimes, protest against his return. Pim helps him when a statement he made about the case in a TV interview is taken out of context, potentially hampering Hendrik's return. Maarten has to take an overdue math test, and forgets to pick up his daughter from daycare twice as a result.

Hannah and Maarten lock horns when defending two Russian women traders with conflicting interests. One wants to confess, the other vehemently denies all accusations. Nina mediates between two men when one complains about the other's noisy roosters, and feels attracted to one of them. Simone returns to the office, still reeling from Maarten's rejection.

Ricky's suspicious client Herman is being blackmailed by the opposing party- lawyer De Bournonville wants him to pay his fee, threatening to have his own client make a statement that will cause Herman to receive a higher sentence. Pim defends an American mother who wants to take her daughter for a visit to the US; the father claims the girl's uncle in the US sexually abuses her and tries to stop the vacation.

Hannah successfully saves client Jim from conviction, and finds herself attracted to him. Nina reminds her that it is forbidden for a lawyer to get romantically involved with a client. Nina also has her own clients to help; she represents a middle-aged couple who accuse a gynecologist for malpractice after the wife gets pregnant due to a mistake on the doctor's part.

Pim defends Jesse van Alphen, who is accused of storing 600 kilos of drugs in his hangar. Jesse vehemently denies, and a detective reveals to Pim that the Attorney General is only prosecuting Jesse because they could not get the real culprit. Nina helps an old Jewish man who is about to divorce his wife after 42 years of marriage. His wife demands half of the profits from selling their house, but he does not want to sell as the house is linked to deeply rooted memories of his youth in World War II. Nina is later startled when her boyfriend Carel turns out to be the judge assigned to the case.
