Not a deep game, just pure fun
SuperSanity9 August 2006
This game is seriously one hell of a shooter. Yeah, it has a vague plot, yeah it's not complicated, but so what? People are getting to hooked up on games being serious.Nobody wants to just have reckless fun anymore. And that's where this game excels.

The graphics: For 2001, they're pretty damn good. Sure they're not the best, but it doesn't impair gameplay.

The plot: It basically doesn't matter.

The sound: This area is great. You'll hear the Kamikazi's way before you can see them. Sam's comments throughput the game are hilarious (a boulder rolls by and he whistles the Indiana Jones theme).

The Gameplay: Great. They'll throw 40 enemies at you, then 40 more, and so on. The weapons just plain kickass.

Overall, if you want a great and intriguing plot, stay away. But if you want old-school shooter action, pick this up.

Also, I noted that a reviewer mentioned that if you're in Egypt, your enemies should have spears and stuff. Do you not pay attention?

Pretty Fun FPS Game
gangstahippie19 July 2006
Rated M for Strong Violence,Blood,Gore and Some Language.

I got Serious Sam 1 and 2 as well as State Of Emergency all for $14.99!.Pretty cheap price!.State Of Emergency was a pretty disappointing fighting game but the three games are worth it just for Serious Sam 1 and 2.Serious Sam 1 is a fairly good first person shooter game. Its like Duke Nukem 3D.Its an ultra violent FPS game where you kill monsters but it also has plenty of funny one-liners.The graphics in the game are very good. The game takes place in Egypt and the Egyptian atmosphere is excellent. The gun graphics are great as well.Being an FPS game there are plenty of good guns to choose from, plenty of baddies to brutally murder and some puzzles to solve.Serious Sam The First Encounter is a fairly good game and its worth buying for the cheap price tag it has!It also has some funny references to movies like Singing In The Rain.Great Game.

The Game With No Soul
vernyaon11 March 2006
Some games have atmosphere, some games have a diverse array of levels and monsters, and some games have monsters that are appropriate in colour, brightness, and technology to each level. Serious Sam was not one of these games. Every level was set in ancient Egypt (which is nice at first, but gets boring). The sky is big and blue, and everything is eerily quiet and empty. There are no non-hostile creatures around to test your weapons on. And then come the baddies. You'd think than an ancient Egypt game would have people with spears, jackals, pharaohs, and a god or two. But no, instead we get giant robots, aliens, harpies and headless exploding men, all in horrible, high contrast colours that make them even more pointless than they are already. In fact, pretty much every level is just the same ol' ancient Egypt with a slightly different mish-mash of the same monsters, waiting stupidly to be defeated. Brainlessly blasting repetitive baddies gets really old, really fast. The title character is nothing but a cliché wrapped in hackneyed lines and a stereotypical masculine voice. There are no other real characters besides Sam, and the storyline is vague, boring, and has no bearing on whether you will meet robots or harpies around the next corner.

Visually looks great, but...
swedzin8 October 2012
This game, released in 2001 has great visuals, excellent graphics, pretty good job, excellent sound effects and that kind of stuff. It really does, the concept for levels (aka worlds) is also good, it's very lively and cheerful. But... overall, it's ridiculous. This game has no story at all, not even close. No story, no soul, no structure, no good voice acting, nothing. It has silly weapons, funny-looking enemies (though some of them were not that bad), and no meaning. The gameplay is dumb, you are firing from your weapons like there's no tomorrow, at the endless hordes of enemies... it's fun at first, but after a minute or two, it gets tiring and boring. What's the point here? What's the point in the game to shoot endlessly in dumb looking enemies and other entities? Well, you can't go to the next room, or stage until you kill all of them, and for that, it might take some time... I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone, because it has no sense at all... But if you want to waste your time, just to speed up things... there you go... play it.
