The young lovers separate, she to a career on the stage and he to remain in the small village in which they grew up. Years pass and he is hired to be a porter for a theater company and finds her, a far different woman who does not recognize him. Driven mad by this, he tries to strangle her and is thwarted. Later, he shoots her in the street.

The short melodrama by Albert Cappellani, an ambitious director in this period, has many of the hallmarks of the era, including stagy acting. However, Cappellani is not afraid to vary his scenes, from the artificial stage to the naturalistic outdoors. The artificial sets are debilitating; the natural sets are places where real events occur and real consequences are effected. It's a very interesting dichotomy for the era.
