- Journalist Helma Matern boarded not for fun but a saucy scoop which celebrated novel author Heinz Schulz managed to keep from his audience: he uses the pseudonym Paula Pattini to publish bestseller romantic novels. Insider Rose Gervinius, his literary agent, duly mistrusts flirtatious Helma Matern, but Heinz ignores her warnings, getting obsessed with Helma. Rolf Hartmann hopes the cruise can patch things up with his wife Regine, who is infertile after three miscarriages. Captain Paulsen's godson Mickey Köhler isn't just a gifted prankster, but gets the Hartmanns to take him along on a local trip, posing as poor orphan, when a lunatic on the run confides 'her' stolen baby to Regine, who wants to keep it as she doesn't make it to the given meeting point, being arrested. In Auckland port, contractor Gerd Götze, who believes all is for sale, his much younger wife Stella and his best friend Benjamin Pohl rent a sailing yacht to explore a nearby island. Captain Paulsen spots their red emergency light and stops the ship to take them aboard, Gerd Götze allegedly having had a cardiac attack, but retired police detective Franz Engel soon smells a rat and helps work out the devious truth, requiring seeing through several false versions.—KGF Vissers
