TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CanWest Media Works said Wednesday it has re-upped homegrown drama Falcon Beach for a second season. Winnipeg, Manitoba-based CanWest said its Global Television network will purchase another 13 hours of the teen drama from co-producers Insights Prods. and Original Pictures. Falcon Beach, which also airs on Disney's ABC Family cable network, follows the lives of young people summering in the resort town of Falcon Beach on the shores of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. Production on the second season of the Canadian drama is set for summer 2006 in Manitoba.
TORONTO -- Canadian producers Insight Prods. and Original Pictures said Wednesday they have sold their teen drama Falcon Beach to ABC Family. The U.S. broadcaster said the Canadian drama about coming-of-age teens holidaying in a lakeside resort would launch its Sizzlin' Summer programming strand in 2006. After the original two-hour pilot for Falcon Beach aired on the Global Television Network in Canada, the Canadian broadcaster ordered 13 one-hour episodes of the teen drama that stars Steven Byers, Jennifer Kydd, Devon Weigel, Ephraim Ellis, Eric Johnson and Melissa Elias. Production on the first season of Falcon Beach is set for this summer just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba. Producer credits on Falcon Beach go To Kim Todd, John Murray and Shannon Farr. Murray and Farr created the series.

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcasters are looking to ring in the New Year with a raft of American midseason replacements and returning U.S. network fare. The Global Television network, a division of CanWest Global Communications Corp., said Monday that in January it will air the Ridley Scott drama Numb3rs, the domestic diva reality series Wickedly Perfect and the supernatural drama Point Pleasant. Global Television's new Canadian programming for January includes the TV movie Falcon Beach and the primetime soap Train 48. Global Television will air Super Bowl XXXIX, the Grammy Awards and the latest Survivor reality series in February.
