Sara Paxton, Emma Roberts, and JoJo in Aquamarine (2006)

Goofs

Aquamarine

Edit

Continuity

In the movie, Aqua's eyes are blue but on the DVD her eyes are green.
When Raymond swims out to save Aquamarine from the storm, Aquamarine gets up on his surf board. They start to talk and one shot of Raymond shows he has several drops of water on his face. In the next shot, his face is bone dry.
The blue streaks in Aquamarine's hair disappear and re-appear throughout the film.
At the street fair, after Aquamarine "fluffs his ego," Ray receives a blow-up dolphin in the background. In the next shot, he receives it again.
In the end when the two girls and Aqua are in the water Hailey's bra was black, but when she was in the water with Aqua it was pink.

Factual errors

Cecilia has a Florida vanity plate, with "Princess" on it, on the front of her pink car. Florida does not have front mounted vehicle license plates.
Aquamarine's living starfish earrings go transparent when they get wet. Starfish are not transparent when wet or dry.
Raymond puts an adhesive bandage on Aquamarine's scraped knee without first checking for debris, or offering to flush/disinfect the wound. A trained lifeguard would know to do both of those things, as part of basic first aid training.

Revealing mistakes

When Aquamarine is talking with Raymond on his rescue board near the end, she is seen with her hair covering her chest. On the shots showing Aqua close up, she appears to be nude, but in the shots showing both of them, you can see a neutral-colored bathing suit between her hair.
In the beginning when Hailey folds the umbrella at the beach, Claire stands still behind the umbrella waiting for the scene to begin.
After the hurricane, despite the damage and debris everywhere, the plants on the girls' balcony are completely unscathed.
During the phone call scene, it's obvious that you can tell Aquamarine is wearing hair extensions when they shot a close up her hair is up to her chest and the extensions look out of place.
When Hailey and Aqua are climbing the water tower, the sun has already set, yet there still appears to be sunlight and the shadows fall in the wrong direction.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Aquamarine kicks Claire, she says "Hey, look what I can do." but there is no movement in her mouth while saying this.
When Aquamarine is taking a bath and eating ice cream at Claire's house. Claire and Raymond walk in unannounced while Hailey jumps in the tub and hides Aqua's tail. Raymond says "oh god!" But his mouth says "oh no!"

Errors in geography

Throughout the movie, there are tall mountains in the background. There are no mountains in Florida.
The movie is set in Florida but really was filmed in Australia. One scene in particular shows the girls reading magazines. One magazine is TotalGirl which is only sold in Australia and the areas around it.

Plot holes

Aquamarine claims that one drop of water will turn her legs back into a tail, so she has to avoid it during the day and in public, in order to keep her secret. But throughout the film she interacts with water (spitting it over her lap from a cup, riding in/clambering across pedalos on a lake, walking along the beach/pier, attending an event where water balloons are being thrown) without any apparent fear of or wish to avoid it.
If Hailey suspected that Claire and Aquamarine are in the washroom together, it's unclear why she would walk Raymond (who likes Aquamarine) to the washroom, and then enter without knocking.
Aquamarine is rescued from the water tower during the night by 'a man with a ladder.' But how would she climb down any ladder whilst she still had her mermaid tail? And she would be too heavy for anyone to carry down.

Character error

When Hailey,Claire and Aquamarine meet the dolphins, one of the dolphins sprays water on Aquamarine's leg. Her legs should have turned back into fins since she can't touch water.
